Why Sponsor the Coney Island Dancers?
Our ensemble has its roots from dancing at the famed Paradise Garage, to setting up festive events in Coney Island. “It’s great to be noticed for what you do. I get a lot of people off the street and dancing has saved them; our crew is from the community. Our following has grown from our community to being a sensation enjoyed by visitors and tourists visiting Coney Island.”
“I know dance saved me. I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for it. I could have been in a gang – or for that matter on a “permanent vacation” now. I want to use my talent solely
for the purpose of making people feel good about themselves in a happy and friendly place. I believe I make a difference in people’s lives by providing this. Since the early 1990’s, I have
noticed some of the kids from Coney Island dancing to our music instead of hanging out on our notorious street corners.
Our youth needs something to do, something to look forward to as city budget cuts on summer activities, jobs and other youth related programs have limited our choices.”
Super Storm Sandy has turned South Brooklyn upside down. Everyone who owned a business by the ocean has been hit very hard and we are no exception. Our organization lost equipment when the ocean swallowed up Coney Island and we are still working to replace it. There are several businesses that
were not able to come back and ones that survived continue to struggle – and we are one of them. We lost precious electronic and other equipment valued about $6000. We jumped through every hoop and met every requirement when FEMA came knocking but all we were offered was a loan. We declined the
offer as not to dig us in an even deeper hole. So far we have raised about $1000 dollars in donations and we are still off our mark. The Coney Island Dancers produce FREE events on a shoestring budget and we are asking for donations and/or sponsorship to help us keep going.
The city has raised $54 billion and the monies have been given by politicians to heavy hitters and organizations that already have lots of money. We are only asking for a fraction. The Coney Island Dancers is a positive organization rooted in Coney Island and our reputation speaks for itself. Please excuse me for being forward but we have nothing to lose.

Who are the Coney Island Dancers?
The Coney Island Dancers is a well known organization in our community staffed by volunteers who care deeply for Coney Island. We provide happy, safe and friendly entertainment in a
music and dance venue.
Over the last few years, Rican Vargas (aka “Commander in Chief”) has organized and has lead the Coney Island Dancers movement. The goal of our ensemble is not only to provide
entertainment, but also elevate our community and the reputation of Coney Island as a positive, fun and family place. This grass roots community based organization looks for no glory other than the benefit and well being of our community.
We have also stepped up to the plate in our community with the service/cleanup program dubbed “The Cool Hand Luke
Program.” This is a joint venture with us and three different entities: The NYC Parks Department (Michael Super), the
District Attorney’s office (Alexander Gurevich) and Bishop Joseph Crooms of the Faith Worship and Praise Deliverance Tabernacle.
The Coney Island Dancers are a small DJ business that plays disco, house, funk and soul music on the boardwalk during the summer months for free. Please see our website on the web @
www.coneyislanddancers.com for schedule. We also appear in the world famous Mermaid Parade. Our ensemble is looking forward to a fabulous Summer 2016 with new ideas and concepts.
